Module 6 · Lesson 20 of 37

Subdomain Separation

Part of The Complete Email Deliverability Course — Sending Practices & Optimization.

Separating transactional and marketing email onto different subdomains provides reputation isolation.

Recommended structure:

  • trans.example.com → Order confirmations, password resets
  • news.example.com → Marketing newsletters
  • example.com (parent) → Corporate communications only

Each subdomain needs its own SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configuration.

⚠️ Note: Reputation can still "leak" between subdomains sharing a parent domain, but isolation significantly reduces cross-contamination.
