Microsoft Defender for Office 365
Microsoft's paid email and collaboration security for Microsoft 365, in Plan 1 and Plan 2, which adds protections such as Safe Links and Safe Attachments to the built-in filtering.
What it means
Microsoft describes Defender for Office 365 as the primary email and collaboration security solution for Microsoft 365, arranged as a ladder: the built-in security features included with every cloud mailbox (Exchange Online Protection), then Defender for Office 365 Plan 1, then Plan 2. Its features include Safe Links, which checks URLs, and Safe Attachments.
For senders it matters because Safe Links checks the URLs in messages, and M3AAWG notes that security appliances examining mail can produce spikes in opens and clicks that no person made. Spam and bulk verdicts still come from the anti-spam stack, with the same SCL, BCL and category values in the headers.
