Click rate
The share of delivered emails in which at least one tracked link was clicked. Security tools that follow links can register clicks that no person made.
What it means
Mailchimp defines click rate as the percentage of delivered emails that registered at least one click. Clicks are recorded by rewriting each link to pass through a tracking domain, which logs the click and redirects to the real address.
Two cautions apply. Scanners that follow links can register clicks: M3AAWG notes that large spikes in opens or clicks may indicate security appliances giving mail extra scrutiny, and Mailchimp warns that bot activity can inflate click metrics. And the tracking domain becomes part of the message: SendGrid notes that spam filters judge links by the reputation of their root domain, and M3AAWG warns that a click-tracking domain shared between senders can carry one sender's problems to another.
