SpamCop

A spam reporting service whose SpamCop Blocking List (bl.spamcop.net) lists IP addresses that sent mail its users reported, and drops them once reports stop.

What it means

SpamCop determines where reported spam came from and reports it to the responsible network providers. Its Blocking List, the SCBL, lists IP addresses that have transmitted reported email to SpamCop users, fed by automated reports and user submissions.

The SCBL is time-based: listings expire automatically when reports stop, so there is usually nothing to request once the cause is fixed. SpamCop describes the list as aggressive, says it often errs on the side of blocking, and encourages users to tag and divert mail rather than block it outright, ideally with an allow list of wanted senders.

A SpamCop listing means mail from the IP was reported, by SpamCop users or automated sources, so look at list sources and compromised accounts before configuration.
