- Who has to act
- The sender. The fix is on the sending side: your domain, your server or your list.
What it means
Codes 989 and 990 apply the rate limit to your sending domain as a whole, rather than to one message as code 988 does. The domain has a low reputation at Orange, so its mail is accepted more slowly, and the only resolution in the table is to try again later. If the limits keep coming back, the domain reputation needs work: Orange asks for low spam report rates, clean lists and passing authentication.
Common causes
- Mail from the domain drew spam reports above the levels Orange accepts.
- The domain sent to many invalid or unengaged addresses.
- The domain is new or suddenly sent much more mail than usual.
How to fix it
- 01Try again later, as Orange asks.
- 02Cut volume to Orange addresses and raise it gradually.
- 03Remove addresses that bounce or never engage, and keep spam reports low.
