What it means
Code 506 is the Orange answer for a message its filtering judged to be likely spam. The postmaster page gives two routes. For a deliverability problem, use the Orange contact form and choose the deliverability option. If you meet OFR_506 often, you can submit an information request through the Vadesecure Sendertool, the tool of the filtering company Vade. Before either, Orange asks senders to work through its guidelines: SPF, DKIM and DMARC that pass and align with the From domain, a valid PTR record and HELO, a clean list and a low complaint rate.
Common causes
- The content or links of the message look like spam to the Orange filters.
- Your SPF, DKIM or DMARC fail, or do not align with the From domain.
- Orange users have reported your mail as spam; Orange says a report rate of 0.6% or above might trigger its protections, and plans to lower that to 0.3%.
- Your IP or domain has a poor reputation or a blocklist listing.
How to fix it
- 01Check that SPF, DKIM and DMARC pass for your mail and align with the From domain, as Orange requires.
- 02Review the message content and links, and send only to recipients who opted in.
- 03Test your setup with an audit tool such as SenderAudit, which the Orange page suggests.
- 04If OFR_506 keeps appearing, submit an information request through the Vadesecure Sendertool.
- 05If the problem continues after the fix, use the Orange contact form linked from its postmaster page and choose the option "Un problème d'envoi d'emails vers les adresses Orange ou Wanadoo (deliverability issue)".
