OFR_107: no reverse DNS for your IP

Orange refused your mail because your sending IP has no PTR record (reverse DNS). The PTR name must resolve back to the same IP.

OFR_107
Who has to act
The sender. The fix is on the sending side: your domain, your server or your list.

What it means

Code 107 means the IP address your server sends from is missing a DNS PTR record, also called rDNS or reverse DNS. Orange requires one for every sending IP. Its resolution asks for a valid PTR record that points to your domain, and adds a second condition: the sending IP must match the IP address of the host name given in the PTR record, so the name has to resolve forward to the same address. The PTR record is set by whoever controls the IP range, usually your host or ISP.

Common causes

  • No PTR record was created for the sending IP.
  • The server moved to a new IP and reverse DNS was not set up for it.
  • The reverse zone is not served correctly by its name servers.

How to fix it

  1. 01Ask the owner of the IP range to create a PTR record pointing to a host name in your domain.
  2. 02Make that host name resolve to the same sending IP.
  3. 03If you changed DNS recently, allow time for caches to expire before retrying; Orange notes that TTLs are typically up to 24 hours.
