What it means
Like the other RL codes, RL000002 is a temporary rate limit: Xfinity answers with a 4xx so the sending server tries again later. This limit is set from sender reputation and volume metrics supplied by Cloudmark, and it applies to the server whatever the number of domains it sends for. Xfinity advises that new IP addresses expected to send a lot of mail to its customers start with low volumes and build up over time; as an IP sends more mail, its limit rises day by day. Xfinity gives no figures for this limit.
Common causes
- The sending IP is new or has little history, so its allowance is still small.
- Volume to Xfinity jumped faster than the limit grows.
- Cloudmark's reputation data for the IP is poor.
How to fix it
- 01Let your server retry. Xfinity suggests shortening the delivery retry interval if the limit is delaying mail.
- 02Warm up new IPs: start with low volumes to Xfinity addresses and increase them gradually.
- 03Look up the IP with Cloudmark Sender Intelligence and deal with any reputation problem it shows.
- 04If you need more help, use Report an issue under Postmaster on Xfinity's Customer Security Assurance site.
