550: account not available

The Xfinity account you wrote to is currently not available. Xfinity sends this as a 550, so the message has failed, though the account itself may come back.

What the server says
550 Account not available

What it means

Xfinity uses this 550 when a message is sent to an Xfinity account that is currently not available. It gives no further detail, and the wording differs from its 'Not our customer' reply, which is for customers that do not exist. Because the code is 550, your server treats the delivery as failed and does not retry. Possible reasons include an account that is suspended or being closed, but Xfinity does not say which applies.

Common causes

  • The recipient's account has been suspended or disabled.
  • The account is being closed or moved.

How to fix it

  1. 01Do not resend straight away, since the account is unavailable for now.
  2. 02Contact the recipient another way to check whether the address still works.
  3. 03If it bounces the same way on later sends, remove the address from your list.
